In-House Tourneys 411

If you’re new to Irrational Guys and haven’t yet played in one of our in-house tourneys, here is a basic run down of how they work…

Signups: New tournaments are announced in three places… in-game chat, on our Discord and via our member mailing list. The most recent post on #ig-tourney-news will be made by the tourney host and will include a copy of the tournament flyer. To signup, all you need to do is click on the green checkmark emoji under the post.

The Flyer: The tourney flyer will tell you everything you need to know… who will be sending the tournament duels (aka, “the host”), which holes will be played on which dates, sometimes the exact pin location for each hole, the required bag setup if there is one, how scoring will be done and what restrictions there are, if any, like “no premium balls allowed”.

Practice: Players will practice the tourney holes via duels (or solo mode, if available) in the time between signups and the start of the tournament. This is the time to get really comfortable with the clubs you’ll be using in the tournament. In some cases, the pin locations will be announced ahead of time, so you can really dial in your approaches.

Tournament Play: The tournament host will send one duel to each participant each day using the designated hole that is listed on the flyer. Only those duels sent by the host will be scored on our leaderboard. Your duel with the host must be completed to be scored. In other words, a completed duel replay must automatically be posted in game chat so that the host can record your score.

Disqualifications: If you use the wrong setup in a preset bag event or if you forfeit a tournament duel vs the host, you will receive a DQ for the round and likely be disqualified from the tournament since there would be no way to score your rounds equally against other players.

Scoring: Most of our tournaments follow the same scoring format. Each of your rounds will be scored first by the number of strokes, then the distance to the pin on your second to last shot. If, for example, on a par 5 hole you shoot a three after your first shot lands 12.0 yards from the pin, your score for that round would be a 3 with a distance of 36 feet zero inches. We convert game yardage to feet and inches on our leaderboard.

Eliminations: The elimination schedule, if there is one, will appear on the tournament flyer next to each date. We typically don’t do eliminations after the first day, but then each day after that we’ll eliminate 50% of the field based on where they land on the leaderboard. If you’ve been eliminated, you will not receive any more duels from the host until after the tournament has ended.

The Leaderboard: Updated tournament standings will be posted daily in #ig-tourney-news by the event host. If enough players complete their duels early in the day, there may be mid-day leaderboards posted as well. The leaderboards will also indicate if players are safe from elimination in the current round.

The Winner(s): The majority of our tournaments are individual player vs player events, but we do team tourneys every now and then, too. At the bottom of the tournament flyer, you’ll see what the winners will receive. In all cases, the winner(s) will be listed on the tournament winners Wall of Fame on our web site. For most of our tournaments, winners will receive another prize, like premium balls or a gift certificate to be used in the IG merch shop.

That’s it. Easy enough, right?  If you need clarification on any of these points, please be sure to post your questions on #ig-tourneys, in game chat or you can reach out to the host directly or any of the captains.

Good luck!
